TOURISFIT
TOURISFIT (creaTing new spOrts toUrism, pRomoting sustaInability, and foStering Fitness, Inclusion, and cooperaTion) is a project co-funded by the the Interreg IPA South Adriatic Programme that aims to unlock the potential of sport tourism in the South Adriatic and turn it into a more sustainable, inclusive and coordinated driver of local development.
Bringing together universities, regional agencies and public authorities from Italy, Albania and Montenegro, the project responds to a shared challenge: although sport tourism is growing rapidly across Europe, the South Adriatic area still lacks a common strategy to plan, manage and promote it in a way that benefits territories, communities and natural ecosystems.
To address this, TOURISFIT adopts a shared data-driven approach. The project will map sport tourism assets and opportunities across the programme area, identify the main stakeholders involved, and analyse the potential impacts of sport tourism from multiple perspectives, including public health, environmental sustainability, social inclusion and local economic development.
A key project output will be the development of the TOURISFIT Platform and a Decision Support System (DSS), designed to help policymakers, institutions and stakeholders make better-informed decisions when planning, implementing and assessing sport tourism initiatives. In parallel, the project will test its model through four pilot events in the participating territories, focused on water sports, health-related activities, e-sports and sport management. These pilots will provide practical evidence, lessons learned and concrete recommendations for future action.
Building on this work, TOURISFIT will deliver a Joint Action Plan and strengthen long-term cross-border cooperation among partners and stakeholders. Overall, the project seeks to position the South Adriatic as a more coherent, attractive and sustainable sport tourism destination, while generating lasting benefits for local communities, institutions and visitors alike.
